Bellator 172 has found it’s co-main event.
Bellator officials recently announced that Josh Thomson and Patricky “Pitbull” Friere will serve as the co-main event at Bellator 172. The event is set to be headlined by Fedor Emelianenko and Matt Mitrione. Pitbull will be looking to spoil Things by taking out Thomson in front of his hometown crowd in San Jose.
Thompson will enter the fight with a bit of momentum after winning his first two fights with the promotion scoring TKO’s over both Mike Bronzoulis and Pablo Villaseca respectively. A win over Pitbull would without a doubt toss Thomson’s name into the title fight conversation. Thomson is a veteran of the sport and holds victories over some of the biggest names in the sport, including, Nate Diaz, Gilbert Melendez and KJ Noons. Given the fighting style of both him and Pitbull it is hard to believe ths fight disappoints on any level.
Pitbull is a Bellator vet and is preparing to step into the cage for the 17th time. He is most recently coming off a title fight loss against Mike Chandler at Bellator 157. He is a power puncher recording 10 TKO’s will be looking to make it 11 against Thomson. Pitbull has notable KO victories over Derek Campos, David Rickels and Ryan Couture. He will be looking to get back in the win column after a disappointing loss to Michael Chandler.
Bellator 172 is set for February 19, in San Jose, Californial at the SAP Center. The card can be viewed live on Spike TV at 9 p.m. and the prelims will be streamed through Bellator.com.
