Justin Gaethje Receives New Opponent For WSOF 34 In New York

The World Series of Fighting announced a change to their main event at WSOF 34.

Justin Gaethje, arguably the promotions biggest star and their longest raining champion is set to defend his lightweight title for the sixth time on December 31, in New York. He was originally set to defend the belt against Joao Zeferino, but things were shaken up when Zeferino pulled out due to injury. Gaethje will now defend his title against Luiz Fermino.

Geathje is currently 16-0 (9-0 in WSOF) and is the promotions longest raining champion. He’s a devastating athlete with 13 KO’s and has only gone to the judges twice. His most notable win came over long time UFC veteran Melvin Guillard. Most recently at WSOF 29,  he scored a TKO victory via leg kicks over Brian Foster. He fights with brutal violence.

Firmino is no slouch, the Pride and Dream veteran has a record of 17-9. He has started his time with the promotion of right picking up a trio of victories over Jacob Volkmann, Tyson Griffin and Caros Fodor before most recently losing to Brian Foster by submission at WSOF 33.

WSOF 34 will go down on December 31, at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. The event will house for title fights and air live on NBC.
