In the world of MMA there are no shortage of devastating knockouts, but in 2016 none were more devastating than Michael “Venom” Page’s flying knee KO of Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos.
Page may easily be the most recognizable name on the Bellator roster. The undefeated welterweight is currently 12-0 (8-0 with Bellator) with seven knockouts. The Englishman is a product of London Shootfighters and is a literal human highlight reel. To give you an idea of what I mean, Page picked up his first pro victory with a tornado kick.
However, what Page did to Santos is easily the most devastating thing he’s done in the cage to this point in his career and it will be tough to top. Round 1 was a relatively close round. Page landed the cleaner strikes, while Santos utilized some affective grappling. In the second round though, Page’s confidence came shining through. He walked Santos down the entire round with his hands down, throwing numerous unorthodox attacks. It was when Santos came lunging forward with an over hand right that this happened:
It is one of the most perfectly timed flying knees in history and the damage it caused to Cyborg was described by Joe Rogan as the worst injury in the history of MMA. Here is the result of the knee.
Page has yet to be booked for 2017, but he will likely be facing off with the divisions best this year. It will be interesting to see how MVP fairs against the best welterweights in the world. Congratulation Mr. Page on scoring thefighthouse.com’s knockout of the year.
