Jorge Masvidal seems to be coming for Donald “Cowboy Cerrone with a vengeance. The 170-pound contender feels like he’s deserved to face Cerrone since the UFC pulled Kelvin Gastelum from their scheduled fight and set up the Cerrone vs Gastelum fight at UFC 205. that fight never happened due to Gastelum’s inability to make the 170 pound welterweight limit.
Masvidal spoke to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour Monday and when asked about if he felt going against all odds, fighting Cowboy in his hometown of Denver, Masvidal simply said the location does not matter.
“I knew If I had to get a fight against a princess, I knew I would have to fight him under some circumstances,” Masvidal said. ” I don’t care where we fight, we could have this fight on Mars, I don’t give a fuck. I grew up fighting in backyards, I don’t give a fuck.”
Masvidal says a win over Cerrone means the UFC will have to start feeding him “protected” fighters. He believes beating Cerrone will give him the momentum to make 2017 his year.
“2017 will be the year of the easy money campaign and time to make the UFC great again,” Masvidal said. “After I beat him the UFC’s best-kept secret is out. They’ll have no choice to give me some easy money.”
Let’s hope the Masvidal vs Cerrone fight lives up to expectations as fight fans, because if so it has the early makings to be a fight of the year contender and an instant classic.
