Scott Coker responds to Meryl Streep with an invitation to Bellator 170.
Well no one saw this coming. Meryl Streep took a stab at MMA during her Golden Globe’s acceptance speech, which ruffled the feathers of many in the MMA community. Not to worry though Bellator President Scott Coker wasted little time responding to the talented actress in defence of the sport.
In a twitter post Coker – who said he’s a “life long” fan of Streeps work – invited the actress to attend Bellator 170 later this month at the LA Forum, so she could get a better acquainted with the art of MMA.

Streep pointed out numerous artists in the audience who brought their skills to Hollywood from other areas of the world, saying if we get rid of them “you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts.” The talented actress then elegantly blasted president-elect Donald Trump for his treatment of a disabled reporter last year, ultimately calling him a bully.

As you can imagine many in the MMA community took to blasting Streep for her comments, while Coker just as elegantly as she reminded her that MMA is filled with people from all walks of life and that martial arts is in fact an art.
“The global sport of mixed martial arts celebrates male and female athletes from around the world who work tirelessly honing their craft and – yes – art.”
