Volkan Oezdemir Looking to Have Wrestling Tested in Title Fight

Volkan Oezdemir is looking forward to having his wrestling tested at Titan FC 43 against Muhammed DeReese.

Oezdemir is set to meet DeReese for the vacant heavyweight title at Titan FC 43. The heavyweight prospect is 12 -1 with his only loss coming at Bellator 115 against Kelly Anundson in a match where he was badly out wrestled. That was almost three years ago and it’s a hole in his game he’s worked very hard to close. With the title fight just days away Oezdemir is very excited about being tested by the superior wrestling of DeReese.

“All my fights I have won except one and that was against a wrestler, and I lost in the wrestling department and I have been working on my wrestling a lot… It will be a good test for me, so I just can’t wait to see where I am at,” Oezdemir said in an interview with The Fight House. “If he exchanges with me for a little bit that is going to surprise me for sure, because I know he is going to come to wrestle, he doesn’t want to stand with me, I am heavier and a better striker, but he is a better wrestler for sure, so whoever does their thing better is going to win the fight.”

His opponent DeReese will be making his début as a heavyweight after spending his entire career at light heavyweight. Oezdemir feels he may be better prepared to go the full five rounds due to his experience carrying the extra weight of a heavyweight.

“I am a natural heavyweight and I think he’s a natural 205. He is not that big, but I don’t know what his weight is going to be, I guess he is going to be 220, maximum,” Oezdemir said. “It’s always different when you have to carry those extra 20 lbs or the extra 10 lbs for 5 rounds, it’s getting heavy at the end of the day, so that is going to be one advantage I am going to have.”

Oezdemir is still struggling with a game plan for the fight, but knows DeReese is going to feel his power early and he will definitely be looking to finish in devastating fashion.

“He is going to feel my power for sure, I am getting really sharp with my boxing right now and I am going to go for the knockout,” Oezdemir said. “I am struggling to know what I’m going to do, but my gut says go in for the kill. Then sometimes it tells me just build the fight, because it’s a five round fight, blah, blah, blah, but I know I am better and I want to prove it to everyone. I want to get the finish in the first round, but we’ll see the day of the fight for sure.”

Titan FC 43 is set to go down at Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Florida on January 21.
